MCC comes into force

Jammu, May 16:  With the declaration of the general election 2024 schedule by the Election Commission of India Saturday evening, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has come into force with immediate effect, across the country, including J&K.

In this connection, the office of Chief Electoral Officer, J&K has also issued advisories to the District Election Officers (Deputy Commissioners) of all twenty districts of the Union Territory to ensure strict compliance of the MCC instructions.

   

“As you are aware that the Election Commission of India has announced the programme of elections to the Lok Sabha 2024, with the announcement of the programme the Model Code of Conduct has come into force with immediate effect. You are accordingly requested to direct all the line departments to ensure strict compliance of the instructions of Model Code of Conduct contained in the manual on Model Code of Conduct for the guidance of political parties, candidates and other related guidelines,” read the advisory while referring to the link for downloading the manual.
“The compliance of the instructions contained in the manual be ensured and the compliance reports be sent on the e-mail Id of office of the CEO, J&K,” it said.

MCC also constrains the government from enacting fresh policies until the culmination of the electoral process.
