Mughal Road closed for vehicular movement

Rajouri, Apr 17:  The government has prohibited movement of vehicles on Mughal road till further notice due to hazardous conditions prevailing along the stretch.

Shooting stones and slippery conditions are obstructing smooth traffic flow. The road earlier remained closed for three days.

“It was closed on Saturday and was restored for movement of vehicles only on Wednesday. However, the road has been found risky for smooth flow of traffic,” officials said.

Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Surankote, Muhammad Farooq Khan said, “On Wednesday, more than four hundred vehicles, from both sides, plied. This traffic mainly comprised people who were stuck on both sides, due to the closure of the road for three days.”

“Slippery conditions on the road are making it extremely difficult for vehicles to ply smoothly. At some places, shooting stones are also posing a risk of accidents. The threat of snow avalanches or snow slides too persists, thus adding to risk in travelling on the road,” he said.

SDM informed, “There will be no movement of the vehicles on the road till further notice and traffic will remain closed from both the sides, due to hazardous conditions.”

“Frost, moisture and slippery conditions have created dangerous driving conditions along the Mughal road and thus keeping in view the safety of all commuters, the Mughal road is hereby closed from today onwards until further notice,” he stated.

Deputy SP Traffic Rajouri Poonch, Muhammad Nawaz said, “In the wake of notice issued by authorities, the Mughal road will remain closed till further orders.”
