Police release video of ‘surrender offer’

Three days after announcing that they are probing all angles, police on Monday released two videos of Lawaypora incident wherein army is purportedly asking the three “militants” to surrender. “On 29/12/20 evening after the cordon at #Hokersar, troops are repeatedly #appealing the trapped #militants to come out and #surrender with assurances that they will not be harmed,” J&K police said in a tweet on Monday afternoon.

In the video, a drone is also seen hovering at the spot. Someone from the army, probably an officer can be heard asking the “hiding militants” to surrender.

“You are given a chance to surrender. Leave weapons and come out. We assure you that you will not be harmed. Hands up and come out,” he is heard saying.

“Do you want to surrender? In case you want to surrender, then remove your clothes and come out,” an army official could be heard asking the “hiding militants” in the video tweeted by J&K Police. However, the cordoned youths are not visible in the video.

On Friday, police claimed that that all the three slain youth who have been declared militants by security forces were present at the ‘gunfight site’ and two of them were Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of militants.

Three youth – 24-year-old Ajaz Maqbool Ganai from Putrigam Pulwama, 22-year-old Zubair Ahmad Lone from Turkawangam Shopian and 16-year old Athar Muhstaq Wani from Bellow, Pulwama, were killed on December in the “encounter” at Lawaypora. Police have claimed that the trio was militants, a claim refuted by their families.
