As J&K has crossed 200 mark of COVID19 patients, a district-wise breakup reveals that Srinagar has the highest number of cases while Bandipora has most cases per 1000 population.
Data released by J&K government reveals Bandiporadistrict has 41 active cases of COVID19. The district with a population of385,000 as per 2011 census has one COVID19 positive case per 9400 peopleapproximately. The district has alsoregistered one death.
In terms of numbers, Srinagar district stands at the top.This district, with a population of 1,240,000 has 58 cases of COVID19, of whichone person has died while one has been declared recovered.
In the past one week, district Baramulla has been emergingas a badly affected district. The district has reported 33 cases of COVID19 ofwhich 25 were reported in the past five days only. This district has alsoregistered a death.
Nine districts of Kashmir have registered COVID19 cases, nocase has been reported from district Anantnag. District Shopian, Kupwara andBudgam have 14, 15 and 11 cases respectively, while the remaining districts –Pulwama, Ganderbal and Kulgam have 3 cases each.
In Jammu division, Jammu district is badly affected, with 19cases, closely followed by district Udhampur (18 cases), Rajouri (3), Samba (3)and Kishtawar (1).
The data from each district includes patients from otherstates as well.
Many areas in these districts have been declared as redzones, with administration barring movement of people from highly affectedareas.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole, said thatmany of the patients who tested positive could not recall a contact withCOVID19 symptoms and had no travel history. He said it was clear that they gotinfected by an “asymptomatic carrier.”
“It is an unseen enemy and it becomes imperative on peopleto come forward to report travel,” he said. He added that people need to focuson their physical and mental well being while they are under lockdown.
