Ramban, Mar 23:  The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic of passenger Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and one-way traffic of heavy vehicles for Jammu on Saturday.

Traffic authorities said that the movement of traffic remained slow due to the breakdown of a heavy vehicle inside the Chenani-Nashri tunnel and due to single road, poor surface conditions at Dalwass, Mehar-Cafeteria, Ramban, Panthyal Magarkote, Shalgari, Nachlana, and other places between Nashri and Banihal.

They said that the highway remained open and hundreds of LMVs and heavy vehicles crossed the Nashri-Banihal sector for their respective destinations without any interruption during the day.

The traffic authorities said that heavy load carriers headed towards Jammu in a regulated manner.

Officials at the Traffic Control Unit (TCU) Ramban said that the highway was open for two-way traffic of private cars, passenger LMVs, and one-way traffic of heavy vehicles.

Meanwhile, the J&K Traffic Police Department issued a fresh advisory for Sunday stating that subject to fair weather and road clearance, LMVs would be allowed to ply on either side of the highway.

They said that heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply from Jakhani, Udhampur, towards Kashmir after assessing the road and traffic situation on Sunday.

The Traffic Police advised commuters to follow lane discipline while travelling, especially between the Nashri and Banihal sectors of the highway.
