Tassaduq Jeelani loses battle to COVID

Special Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Tassaduq Jeelani who passed away on Friday evening after losing the fight to Covid19 infection had witnessed an interesting journey of life.

Born at Darshipora village in Banihal, where he also spent early days of his life, Jeelani did his schooling in this hilly belt on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. People in Darshipora remember Jeelani as a hardworking youngster who always wanted to achieve success in life.

   

 Jeelani had a strong lineage of bureaucracy, as his late father Syed Muhammad Afzal Jeelani had served as Deputy
Commissioner Doda. “We always knew him as Jeelani sahab’s son who was quite ambitious. We are sad today,” said Faizul Nabi, a resident of Banihal.

After his schooling days in Banihal, Jeelani secured a BSc Agriculture degree from SKUAST in 1986. As per his close friends, Jeelani entered into Kashmir Administrative Service in 2000.

Jeelani served as Director Rural Development and then Director Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Estates Department, Information and Tourism Departments as well. Jeelani was also posted as Managing Director Housing Board and Deputy Commissioner Anantnag. 

He was admitted in SKIMS Bemina where he breathed his last.

Senior doctors at the hospital told the Greater Kashmir that Jeelani died of “post Covid complications.”

“The cause of death was cardiopulmonary arrest,” said doctors adding that Jeelani had been admitted in the hospital on July 14 and passed away after a battle of 18 days. Jeelani was a diabetic as well, doctors said.

LG expresses condolence

Lieutenant Governor, Girish Chandra Murmu, has expressed grief over the demise of Jeelani.

“He was a dedicated officer who worked with zeal and enthusiasm. It’s unfortunate that we lost him so early”, LG said in a condolence message. The Lt Governor prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and forbearance to the bereaved family at this hour of grief.

Chief Secretary, B V R Subrahmanyam, expressed profound grief over the sad demise of senior KAS officer Tasaduq Jeelani, who passed away this evening at SKIMS Medical College & Hospital, Bemina due to post COVID complications.

Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family members of the officer, Chief Secretary prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and strength to near and dear ones to bear this irreparable loss.

Chief Secretary remembered Tasaduq as a dedicated, soft spoken and well-meaning officer who served with commitment in his capacity as Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag, Director, Information Department, Director Tourism, Kashmir, Director, Rural Development Department, Kashmir, Director Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, Kashmir and Director, Estates Department among others.
