Weather to remain wet: MeT

Meteorological department has predicted that Jammu and Kashmir is all set to receive rainfall during next 24 hours.

The MeT issued the alert after rains lashed different partsof Kashmir on Thursday evening.

   

According to a MeT official Srinagar recorded 1.8 mm ofrainfall, Qazigund 2.0mm, Pahalgam 4.3mm, Kupwara 15.2mm, Kokernag 0.2mm andGulmarg 0.8 mm.

Fresh spell of  rainled to dip in temperatures. “Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 29.8degrees Celsius, Qazigund 27.5 C, Pahalgam 23.4 C, Kupwara 31.7 C,Kokernag  27.7 C, Gulmarg   17.5 C, Leh 28.1 C and Kargil 30.6 C,” theofficial added.

The official predicted more precipitation during next 24hours. “There are chances of scattered to moderate rain/thundershowers acrossJammu and Kashmir divisions,” he added.

The official said that the department has been monitoringthe weather conditions round the clock to ensure that AmarnathYatris don’t faceany problems.  “Two more weathermonitoring stations are being installed to make quick predictions,” theofficial said.

The first update for pilgrims, he said, is released by theMeT department at 4 am and in case of erratic weather condition officials areinformed at least three hours earlier.

The annual AmarnathYatra attracts lakhs of pilgrims, whovisit the cave shrine in July and August every year. The cave shrine is locatedat an altitude of 3,888m in Anantnag district of southern Kashmir.
