Baramulla, Dec 21: The Baramulla district administration has issued an order declaring the entire road stretch from National Highway crossing to Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla as no parking zone in pursuance of Section 122 of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Section 144 CrPC.

The order has been issued following frequent complaints by the visitors to the hospital that the approach road to the GMC Baramulla from the National Highway often remains blocked due to the illegal parking on the road besides too many street vendors on the approach road, which causes severe inconvenience to the patients as well as to ambulances.

“The issue has become a nuisance and has many a times invited criticism from attendants of the patients in particular and public in general,” reads the order.

As per the order issued by the Baramulla district magistrate, “the entire road stretch from National Highway crossing to GMC Baramulla is declared as No Parking Zone in pursuance of Section 122 of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Section 144 CrPC.”

The Station House Officer Baramulla has been directed to implement the order in letter and spirit. Tehsildar Baramulla and Executive Officer MC Baramulla have been directed to undertake a joint visit of the road stretch to render assistance to concerned SHO during morning hours to ensure implementation of this order.

The visitors to the associated hospital GMC had often pleaded for the clearance of the mess on the approach road to the hospital and to allow all the vehicles plying on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway to stop on the designated bus stop which is few yards away from the hospital’s road.

As most of the passenger vehicles are stopping their vehicles in front of the approach road this chokes the entry to the hospital with the result patients and their attendants face hassles while ferrying their patients to the hospital.

“The administration’s move is appreciable. However at the same time the passenger vehicles should not be allowed to stop at the entry point on the approach road to the hospital. Instead they should stop their vehicles at the designated passenger stop which is just a few yards away from the hospital approach road,” said Firdous Ahmad, a local resident.
