Nomination of Aga Ruhullah, Waheed Parra, Ashraf Mir among 29 approved for Srinagar

Srinagar, Apr 26: The Returning Officer for Srinagar Lok Sabha parliamentary constituency has found 29 nomination papers valid including that of National Conference (NC) candidate Aga Ruhullah Mehdi.

Following the election schedule issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for the conduct of Lok Sabha polls, the process of scrutiny of nomination papers submitted by candidates for the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat was held on Friday in the office of the Returning Officer 02-Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency.

   

During the thorough scrutiny of all 39 nomination papers received, the Returning Officer 02-Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency, Bilal Mohiuddin Bhat found 29 nominations valid as per the guidelines of the ECI.

The candidates whose nominations were found valid and accepted include Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi from the National Conference (NC), Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Muhammad Ashraf Mir from Apni Party, Amir Ahmad Bhat from Democratic Progressive Azad Party,

Younis Ahmad Mir from the Bharat Jodo Party, Rubina Akhtar from the National Loktantrik Party, Hakikat Singh from the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (Bhim), and Muhammad Yousuf Bhat from Gana Suraksha Party.

Similarly, the nomination papers of candidates Sheeban Ashahi, Nissar Ahmad Ahangar, Mirza Sajad Hussain Beigh, Jibran Dar, Shahnawaz Hussain Bhat, Amin Dar, Riyaz Ahmad Bhat, Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, Sayim Mustafa, Waseem Hassan Sheikh, Ghulam Muhammad Wani, Hilal Ahmad Dar, Wahida Tabasum, Qazi Ashraf, Qaiser Sultan Ganai, Abdul Hamid Rather, Javaid Ahmad Wani, Jehangir Ahmad Sheikh, Shabir Ahmad Malik, and Sajad Ahmad Dar were also found valid and accepted by the Returning Officer 02-Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency as independent candidates.

The candidature of Salman Sagar from NC became null and void due to formal consideration and approval of the candidature of the main candidate of NC as he was the covering candidate from the same party.

The nomination of 10 candidates was rejected as their nomination papers were found invalid during the scrutiny.

The scrutiny was held in the presence of the General Observer for the 02-Srinagar parliamentary constituency, Mukul Kumar, contesting candidates, and their proposers.

As per the issued election notification, the candidates can withdraw their nomination till April 29 before 3 pm in the office of the Returning Officer 02-Srinagar parliamentary constituency.

The 02-Srinagar parliamentary constituency is scheduled for elections in the 4th phase of Lok Sabha polls on May 13.
