Repair works briefly disrupt traffic flow on Srinagar-Jammu NH

Ramban, May 9:   The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic of Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and heavy vehicles on Thursday.

However, vehicular traffic was halted for some time due to road repair works and the filling of potholes at Dalwass, officials in Ramban said.

Officials, monitoring the regulation of traffic in Ramban, said, “The highway remained open but the traffic movement remained slow due to foot-movement of nomads and their livestock; slippery road conditions and single lane carriageway at Dalwass, Mehar-Cafeteria; Panthial, Nachlana, Gangroo, Shalgari, Kishtwari-Pathar and poor road surface conditions at many places between Nashri-Banihal sectors.”

They said, “Despite slow traffic movement, hundreds of LMVs and heavy vehicles have crossed the Nashri-Banihal sector for their respective destinations without any disruption till late this evening.

Heavy load carriers are heading towards Jammu in a regulated manner.”

Meanwhile, traffic authorities issued a fresh advisory for Friday, stating that subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs, including passenger vehicles, would be allowed to ply on both sides of the highway.

They said heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply towards Kashmir on Friday.
