Srinagar Jammu National Highway open for 2-way traffic

Ramban, Apr 28:  Srinagar Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic of Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and heavy vehicles on Sunday.

However, officials said, the National Highway remained blocked for one hour due to road repair on the Mehar-Cafeteria stretch.

They said, “After road clearance, the National Highway was open but the traffic movement remained slow due to slippery conditions at construction sites and narrow road stretches at many places between the Nashri and Banihal sectors.”

Officials, monitoring the regulation of traffic, in Ramban said, “Despite light rain this morning, the Highway remained open. Slippery conditions, single lane carriageway at Dalwass, Mehad-Cafeteria, Panthial, Nachlana, Shalgari, Kishtwari-Pathar, poor road surface conditions at many places between Nashri-Banihal sectors and movement of nomads and their livestock slowed down the pace of traffic.”

They said, “Despite slow traffic movement, hundreds of LMVs and heavy vehicles crossed the Nashri-Banihal sector for their respective destinations without any disruption till late this evening. Heavy load carriers are heading towards Kashmir and Jammu in a regulated manner.”

Meanwhile, traffic officials at Traffic Control Unit Ramban said that subject to fair weather and road clearance, LMVs and heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply on either side of Highway on Monday.

However, they advised vehicle operators and commuters not to undertake journeys on the National Highway without confirming the status of the road from Traffic Control Unit (TCU) Srinagar, Jammu and Udhampur on Monday in the wake of rain prediction by the weather department.
