Budgam, May 7: With the 2-Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency set to go for polls on May 13 during the fourth phase of Lok Sabha Elections-2024, the Home Voting process began today in 3 assembly segments of Budgam district.

An official spokesman in a statement issued here said that these assembly segments include 29- Khansahab, 30- Charar-i-Sharief and 31-Chadoora.

It is worth mentioning that the ECI has for the first time initiated the facility of home voting, where poll parties along with voting facilities were dispatched to the houses of eligible voters to facilitate their home voting facility to collect their votes at their respective places.

The facility of home voting has been availed by elderly citizens above 85 years of age and specially-abled persons (PwDs), with 40 percent disability criteria.

The exercise involved a dedicated team of polling officials, including presiding Officer, security personnel and other poll parties who collected votes of eligible voters under the prescribed guidelines of the Election Commission of India.

The home voters hailed the Election Commission for reaching their doorsteps and providing them with such facilities at their homes.

Rahti Bano, 99, of Khansahib Budgam is one of the senior citizens who availed the home voting facility and cast her vote at her home. She expressed her joy that she could cast her vote from her home, which otherwise she said would have been difficult for her to reach the polling station due to her health conditions and exercise her right to franchise.
