IGP Kashmir emphasises extensive security measures for LS polls

Srinagar, May 7: In anticipation of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Vidhi Kumar Birdi, accompanied by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) CKR, visited Budgam district to assess and enhance the preparedness for the polls.

The meeting commenced with a detailed presentation by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Budgam, Nikhil Borkar – and Additional SP Budgam, Ragav, highlighting the arrangements for the induction and de-induction of security forces and polling personnel at their designated locations.

   

The discussions also encompassed route planning, security force deployment, and strategic domination during the induction and polling days.

IGP Kashmir emphasized the criticality of close coordination between the District Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and civil administration to ensure the smooth conduct of the election process. He underscored the importance of providing quality accommodation and facilities to the security personnel deployed for polling duties.

The meeting delved into pre-poll strategies aimed at enhancing the security grid’s vigilance and preparedness. It also addressed the security arrangements for candidates, deployment during poll campaigns, and overall security measures for the district. IGP Kashmir stressed the need for extensive area domination, preventive measures to forestall any potential law and order issues, and strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure incident-free elections. The visit reflects the Jammu Kashmir Police’s commitment to providing a free, fair, and secure environment for the public to exercise their voting rights without fear or bias.

The thorough review and strategic planning underscore the authorities’ determination to conduct the upcoming Lok Sabha elections smoothly and uphold the democratic process in Kashmir.
