Justice Sanjeev Kumar inaugurates National Lok Adalat in Baramulla

Baramulla, Dec 9: Justice Sanjeev Kumar, the Judge of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, and administrative Judge of Baramulla, inaugurated the 4th National Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex Baramulla on Saturday.

The event was organised by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Baramulla and saw presence of key dignitaries including Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr. Syed Sehrish Asgar, Principal District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Ashraf Malik, and SSP Baramulla Amod Ashok Nagpure.

   

Addressing the gathering, Justice Sanjeev Kumar spoke on the significance of Lok Adalats in resolving disputes outside the traditional court system. He urged the legal services fraternity to focus on addressing substantial, long-pending cases within Lok Adalats, encouraging expedited resolutions and reduced legal procedures through settlements with relevant departments.

During the event, Justice Sanjeev Kumar distributed cheques worth Rs 31 lakhs to victims who suffered losses or injuries as a result of offences and required rehabilitation. The initiative was aimed to provide financial support to those in need.

In addition to inaugurating the National Lok Adalat, Justice Kumar also inaugurated a Post Office Branch at the Court Complex in Baramulla. He took the opportunity to inspect different benches of the National Lok Adalat, gaining first-hand information about the cases being taken up and disposed of.

A total of 9 benches were constituted addressing 800 cases, out of which an impressive 500 cases were amicably settled during the National Lok Adalat. The event showcased the effectiveness of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in expediting justice.

Later, Justice Sanjeev Kumar engaged with the Bar Association Baramulla, where members raised their grievances. He assured prompt redressal to the issues presented by the Bar Association, demonstrating a commitment to addressing concerns within the legal community.

Justice Sanjeev Kumar also visited the Sub Judge Court Pattan. The event marked a positive step towards enhancing access to justice and expediting legal processes in Baramulla.
