Open drains pose risk of mishaps in Handwara area

Kupwara, Apr 12: The recent initiatives undertaken by the R&B department to alleviate drainage issues in Madian Chogal, along the Sopore-Kulngam Kupwara road, have stirred significant concern among local residents. While the objective of improving sanitation standards is commendable, the execution of these efforts has left much to be desired.

Following the drain cleaning operation, the once serene roads now present a scene of disorder, with piles of concrete and debris strewn haphazardly. This careless disposal poses a considerable threat to commuter safety. What were once symbols of connectivity and progress have now become hazardous paths, fraught with potential dangers for pedestrians and motorists alike.

Of particular concern are the children who navigate these perilous routes on their daily journey to school.

The presence of sharp debris and uneven surfaces increases the risk of accidents, leaving parents understandably anxious about the safety of their young ones.

The residents have sought immediate intervention of Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Handwara Aziz Ahmad Rather in this regard so that the hardships being faced by the people may end.
