While taking a serious note of the views of doctors claiming to be representatives of SKIMS Faculty regarding the selection of the new Director, SKIMS Faculty Forum (SFF) has urged the government to expedite the selection process and not to pay heed towards the hue and cry being raised by a few people.

The SKIMS Faculty Forum on Thursday appreciated the efforts of the government in conducting the timely interviews for the post of the Director.

The Faculty Forum lambasted the incidents wherein some doctors who the forum are trying to influence the choice of the government for Director's post. "Some faculty members of SKIMS are approaching the government and media with their personal views regarding some sensitive matters pertaining to SKIMS administration," the SFF said.

It urged the government and media not to entertain personal views of faculty members, who 'pretend to be to be representatives of SKIMS faculty'.

The forum took strong objection to the behavior of a non-resident faculty member who it said was spending all his time outside the country to influence government in selection of Director SKIMS.

The SFF said that this faculty member is also trying to influence media and his efforts were directed towards securing the 'illegitimate perks and privileges' that he is used to.

The selection panel headed by Chief Secretary BR Sharma had interaction with the shortlisted candidates on June 11th and 12th, 2016. The 'merit list' had been prepared with points given to aspirants' academic record and administrative experience. As many as 24 candidates had participated in 'interaction' with the panel.

Earlier, various doctors at SKIMS had said the delay in appointment of new Director is uncalled for and government should 'make up its mind' fast. They added that an institute of the magnitude of SKIMS cannot be left without a head for long. "We have about 700 beds in SKIMS, a Medical College with a hospital in Bemina, Trust Hospital and so many departments. There could be anarchy if there is no head," said a senior faculty member at SKIMS.
