A team of officials from Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is slated to visit site for AIIMS Kashmir this week to take a stock of the preparation for this multi-crore health institute at Awantipora in south Kashmir, official sources told Greater Kashmir.

They said, "A team of officials from MoHFW and government appointed state nodal team for AIIMS Kashmir would inspect the progress of groundwork for power and water availability at Awantipora sometime this week," officials in Health and Medical education Department said.

The joint team, officials said, would also comprise of engineers and officials from Central Public Works Department (CPWD) who would take stock of the site and feasibility to start the construction work.

"Although the date has not been finalized but GoI team, during a video conference last week communicated to us that they would like to inspect the Awantipora site progress in a few days," a senior official in Health and Medical Education said. He added that the team had has communicated their preference to make the visit before February 17.

Government officials said that GoI team was "satisfied" with the site and had been briefed by GoI for "early initiation" of construction work of AIIMS Awantipora. "The Detailed Project Report has been expedited by CPWD upon government directions and the work is to start very soon," an H&ME official said.

H&ME Department however said that inclement weather may push the dates "a little ahead". "The approach road to the site is yet to be worked on and the site is located on a hillock. If it snows heavily, the visit may be deferred," officials said.

In December last year, the state cabinet cleared the transfer of 1309 kanals and 02 marlas of State land to the AIIMS Kashmir, making the site available for the construction. The power supply for the site was being worked on and state had roped in two grid stations for uninterrupted power supply to the health institute when it comes up.

"We have communicated the requirements to PDD and will have power from Awantipora as well as Pampore grid stations to ensure continuous power supply," administrators in H&ME department said.  PHE Department had undertaken digging of five bore wells at the site for the purpose of having adequate water supply at the site, both during construction and when the institute becomes operational.
