DHSK performs 1300 minimal access surgeries

Peripheral hospitals in Kashmir are providing high- end surgical intervention facilities to people with over 1300 minimal access surgeries performed in hospitals under directorate of health services Kashmir (DHSK), an official statement said. 

In 2016, DHSK established minimal access surgical (MAS) unit at JLNM Hospital, Srinagar. This has streamlined the laparoscopic procedures that have been a routine in JLNM Hospital along with various other peripheral District Hospitals. Over 1300 minimal access surgeries have been performed in these hospitals, in addition to the routine laparoscopic surgeries since May 2016, a press statement from DHSK said.

   

The official statement said that a variety of surgeries were performed by doctors in peripheral hospitals and JLNM Hospital. The surgeries include gall bladder, appendix, ventral and inguinal hernias, vericoceles, orchidopexy, orchedectomy, hydatid cyst, ovarian cyst, ectopic pregnancy and diagnostic laparoscopic procedures for chronic abdominal pain and infertility.

In addition to this, the unit is also imparting training to the doctors and operation theatre staff of various hospitals of Kashmir. “Academic activities and surgery workshops are carried out on routine basis. These workshops are attended by specialists including faculty from tertiary care hospitals,” the statement said.
