Locals padlock health centre in Batagund Tral to protest unavailability of doctors

The residents of Batagund in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday padlocked the building of a health centre in the village to protest against alleged unavailability of the doctors.

Reports said that scores of patients who had reached the New Type Primary Health Center (NTPHC) Batagund on Saturday morning lost their patience after they were made to wait for hours together for treatment.

‘We locked the facility because it is doing us no good. We arrived here for treatment today morning and there is nobody to treat us,” said a local.

The residents said that they had frequently approached the health authorities to address the problems but their efforts failed.

The local said that crores of rupees have been spent on the ‘colossal’ building of the NTPHC but lack of doctors and para-medical staff has marred its functioning.

“This hospital lacks healthcare because there are no doctors and paramedics to attend the patients who visit the hospital daily,” said Mir Aadil, a local.

The villagers also alleged that the staff deployed at the facility routinely reaches here at 12 PM due to which the patients usually suffer.

When contacted, chief medical officer Pulwama, Dr. Jaffer Hussain told Greater Kashmir that he will look into the matter.
