The inhabitants of Sarkuli, here, Sunday held a protest demonstration over the death of a newborn caused due to alleged negligence of the doctors. The protesters demanded magisterial probe into the incident.
On Saturday, Fatima Begum, a pregnant woman, from Sarkuliarea of Kalaroos lost her newborn baby after delivering her in a moving car asshe was allegedly denied ambulance by the doctors at the public healthcommunity Centre Kalaroos.
The locals of Sarkuli protested outside Public Health CentreKalaroos and raised slogans against the district authorities.
"This is not the first such incident that happened in ourarea. We want strict action against the doctors who were negligent," said ReyazAhmad, a protester.
He said since they are from a far flung area "which is thereason that we are being neglected at the medical facility."
"The doctors stationed here know that no one is going tohelp us, that is why they tend to be careless," Reyaz alleged.
Another protester, Rashid Kohli, said: "We are protestinghere since early morning and the authorities are nowhere."
"The CMO Kupwara has not visited this hospital to get thefirsthand appraisal, nor has he sent anyone here to hear us," he said.
When contacted in-charge medical officer Kalaroos Dr. Ramzansaid that an enquiry has been initiated into the incident and its report willbe submitted to the CMO Kupwara within two working days.
"A committee of two specialist doctors has been constitutedby the CMO Kupwara and it will submit its report within two days, andaccordingly action will be taken," he added.
The CMO Kupwara Dr Parladh Singh did not respond to repeatedcalls from this reporter.
