‘Is she Muslim?’ Rihanna’s religion, origin most searched Google terms after her pro-farmer tweet

After tweeting about the ongoing farmers’ protest, the barbadian singer Rihanna has been a trending topic in India for speaking in the favour of agitating food growers.

   

The international singer went swiftly viral after her tweet with both right and left sections of people responding to her in positive and negative ways.

Being targeted for ‘meddling in India’s internal matter’, the major section of people on Internet alleged her of being paid for her tweet.

But not only on Twitter, the pop-star trended on major search engine Google as well.

After hearing about the singer’s first name, many people started to search about her religion and her origin, reported India Today on Thursday.

Search terms like ‘Who is Rihanna?’, ‘Is Rihanna Muslim?’, ‘Rihanna Religion’, ‘Is Rihanna Pakistani’ were among the most searched questions about Rihanna, suggested Google Trends.

Not only Rihanna but many overseas celebrities like Greta Thuberg, Hasan Minhaj, Lilly Singh, John Cusack, Amanda Cerny, Mia Khalifa including many others tweeted about the farmers’ protest.

Although these celebrities received a much negative response from Indian citizens, the protesting farmers on Singhu border expressed their gratitude towards them.

They said, “We’re grateful to Rihanna ji for her support, though we did not know who she was until this evening. Our youngsters showed us the tweet just now and told us who she is. All the farmers from across the country want to thank Rihanna for supporting our voice and for the timely gesture she has made.”

On the other hand, a day after Rihanna’s tweet, Bollywood stars such as Ajay Devgn, Karan Johar and Akshay Kumar, and sports persons such as Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Anil Kumble joined the Centre’s call to stand united against “propaganda” against India’s policies.
