Shambhulal Regar, the man arrested for setting ablaze and hacking a Muslim man in Rajasthan's Rajsamand has been offered to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Agra, a media report said on Thursday.
According to an ANI report Regar, who is currently lodged at Jodhpur jail, has been offered a ticket by the Uttar Pradesh Navnirman Sena, a lesser known political outfit in UP, and he has reportedly accepted the offer.
The report said the announcement for Regar to contest elections was made by Uttar Pradesh Navnirman Sena national president Amit Jani during a presser in Agra.
"We will save Regar and will give political assurance to him. According to Regar, he did self-defence and it's up to the court whether he is a killer or not," ANI quoted Jani as having said.
Jani further lauded Regar's effort to "save Hindutva".
"Regar has the constitutional right to contest election till his conviction. We want only Hindutva faces to contest elections on our party's tickets and there can be nobody better than him," he said.
Regar, a former marble trader, kiled Bengali migrant worker Mohammed Afrozul Khan.
The videos that were uploaded on social media by 14-year-old nephew of Regar, recorded him saying he killed Afrazul to save a woman from "love jihad".
