12-year-old boy dies in SMGS Hospital as dengue grips Jammu

Jammu, Nov 19: A 12-year-old boy died of dengue in the SMGS hospital here amid the mounting count of dengue cases in Jammu region more than 1500.

The boy was admitted in the emergency wing of the SMGS Hospital on November 18, the official said, and added that he had severe fever, pain in abdomen and vomiting for three days.

   

The officials quoting preliminary medical investigation said he was provided immediate needed care but his condition worsened and he was shifted to the pediatrics ICU from the dengue ward of the SMGS Hospital.

The officials said that despite full medical measures to the patient, his condition worsened.

“He however, suffered cardiac arrest on November 18and the patient could not be revived. Later, he was declared as dead,” the official said.

The officials said that the boy was already serious and he was admitted late in the hospital. The doctors did their best to save his life. This was the fourth death in J&K.

Meanwhile, the officials have claimed that the GMC Jammu has recorded admission of over 560 people infected with dengue and around 10 are still under treatment.

Till date, the official said, over 250 dengue infected patients have undergoing treatment in SMGS Hospital.

They said that over 1500 dengue cases have been recorded in Jammu region, so far and 889 of them; have been reported from Jammu’s populated urban areas.

“The cases are declining with the onset of winter season. However, the cases are coming from the populated areas of Jammu and even from RS Pura, Bishnah – rural belt of Jammu district,” the official said.
