Jammu, Nov 9: Police Wednesday detained two BJP MLAs after they staged a sit-in outside the Civil Secretariat Jammu to protest against the alleged failure of the state government to mitigate the sufferings of general masses, especially farmers.
Eyewitnesses said that the two legislators Chaudary Sukhnandan and Shyam Chaudary reached near the main gate of the secretariat, which opened today after annual Durbar Move, in the morning and staged a sit in.
Wearing black aprons, the protesting legislators were raising anti-government slogans alleging that the coalition has failed to solve the problems of the people and farmers in particular were suffering badly.
Police immediately swung into action and detained the two legislators, who were seen resisting their detention.
After initial commotion, the situation was brought under control with the intervention of Minister of State for Home who invited the protesting BJP MLAs to his office in the Secretariat and gave them a patient hearing.
The MoS Home Nasir Aslam Wani reportedly assured the MLAs that all the demands raised by them will be looked into seriously and followed up on priority basis.
