There seems to be no respite for the people from the traffic mess in the city as the concerned authorities expressed helplessness maintaining that all the concerned departments including Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), PWD, JDA and Transport Department need to take collective responsibility to get rid of the worsening scenario.
"The traffic related problems in the city can not be solved until roads are widened, all traffic signals are made functional, proper parking slots are made available, encroachments along roads, footpaths and pavements are removed and stands are identified for stoppage of public transport vehicles", sources in the Traffic Police said.
They further added, "For all this, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), PWD, JDA and Transport Department will have to take collective responsibility only then the traffic scenario will be improved".
They said, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) will have to take care of encroachments and make sure that roads are made clear for smooth flow of traffic.
Similarly, the PWD will also have to work towards widening of the roads which have since long been shrinking in the city, they said, while adding, this is also important as the number of vehicles have also been increasing.
They also said that the JMC and the JDA will also have to take responsibility, and without any further delay, make available adequate parking slots in the city so that illegal parking is avoided.
It may be mentioned that illegal and haphazard parking on the roads is one of the main reasons for traffic mess in the city.
They also said that the Transport Department needs to identify proper stands in the city so that illegal stoppage of vehicles in the city is avoided. The Traffic Department issues licenses to vehicles and route permits, and as such it is the responsibility of the department to identify stands for them so that mess is avoided.
