Several houses were inundated on Monday night due to a breach in the local canal near Sayuna village of tehsil Chenani, thus causing damage to property worth lakh.
As per details, the canal heading towards Chenani Hydro Power Project was breached at various points, thus submerging several houses.
Talking to Greater Kashmir, local residents lamented that the canal of Chenani Power Project has not been renovated since many decades, due to which its embankments have become weak and in every monsoon season it gets breached.
They asserted that the concerned department must look for permanent solution to this problem, as tentative solutions won't help them and this problem arises every year.
Meanwhile, the locals demanded that the administration must constitute a team for assessing damages caused to the locals due to water and should compensate the affected families. They urged upon the deputy commissioner to personally visit the affected areas and take stock of the problems being faced by the locals due to breach in the embankments. They also sought DC to instruct concerned department to take concrete measures for resolving this problem once for all.
