Ever since the inauguration of the Rs. 201 Crore General Bus Stand Parking-cum-Modernization Project by former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in October last year, the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) has so far failed to initiate the ground work on the project which is stated to be completed by 2017.
Pertinently, the JDA had set 2017 as the deadline to complete the project.
In four months, the executing agency-Shapoorji Pallonji & Company Private Limited has placed only two temporary structures of tin near the construction site whereas the foundation stone laid by the former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has been dismantled.
On being questioned about the delay in the completion of the project, Vice-Chairman, JDA, Mubarak Singh said, "It will take time as the modalities are being finalized. Once the work starts on the project, it will be completed in the fixed time period".
On dismantling of the foundation stone, he said, "I do not know about this, but if it has happened, I will look into it".
The project, if completed, will have a total build-up area of 60,000 square meters with a five storey building and a ground floor. With the commissioning of the project, there would be a parking facility for 80 buses and 1300 cars. With this, there would be number of kiosks for shopping besides air conditioned ticket booking office, waiting hall and refreshment facilities.
Out of total 60,000 square meter buildup area, there would be a commercial complex (Shopping Mall) of over 10,000 square meter with fully air conditioned facility.
Official sources told Greater Kashmir that the idea for the project was conceived about 11 years back and since then, the project has been facing delays.
It is pertinent to mention here that in September 2014, Omar government laid a foundation stone, and in October 2015, the former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed also laid another foundation stone at a distance of few feet away from the foundation stone laid by the Omar Government.
