The Shia Federation Jammu today held a protest demonstration outside the Press club here, flaying alleged encroachment of land by police department at Peer Mitha.

While briefing media, Ashiq Hussain Khan, president, said that the premises where the Peer-Mitha Police station, adjoining the karbala complex , has been constructed , originally belongs to the community and formed a part of the complex .

"It was illegally encroached upon. First a Police Post was set up by raising a tent and later a Pacca building was constructed for the Police post which has now been upgraded to the Police station. A new posh building has been constructed there now for housing the Police Station", he said, adding, "The land which belonged to the community from the very beginning and formed part of Karbala complex".

Meanwhile, Khan also demanded setting up of a Shia Advisory Board , on the pattern of Advisory Boards set up for Gujjars , Bakerwals , SC and ST .

Alleging the government of neglecting the community, he also urged the Government to reserve a seat for Shia community of Jammu in Upper House of State legislature.

He also demanded scholarship for Shia students and also a job package for unemployed educated youth.

Speaking on the occasion MLA Kargil Asghar Karbalai said that Karbala Complex land should be immediately resorted to the Shia community "as the land originally belong to them". He said that as this matter is not related to the people of Jammu region but to people of whole J&K.
