Patwaris of five tehsils of Jammu district Monday stayed away from work to protest the alleged slapping of a revenue official by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator in RS Pura sector .
The MLA allegedly slapped a Patwari-Rakesh Kumar- on Friday at Salerh village after the later refused to register Girdawaris on government lands.
"I was being pressurized to register Girdawaris on government land at Salerh village for the last many days. As it was illegal, I refused to do so. On Friday last, the MLA accompanied by his three dozen supporters slapped me in full public view," Kumar told Greater Kashmir.
"For last many weeks, the BJP MLA has been intimidating me but the recent attack has scared me to the hilt", he added.
Kumar said that he filed a written complaint with Police Station Arnia the very next day (Saturday) "But I am not sure whether police have registered an FIR against the MLA or not".
Meanwhile today, Patwaris and some panchayat representatives of five Tehsils of Jammu district gathered at SDM (Jammu South) office at Gadigarh and staged a massive demonstration against the "arrogance" of the BJP MLA.
While raising slogans, the agitating revenue officials were demanding registration of FIR against the BJP MLA. "In case police do not register FIR against the BJP MLA, revenue officials of all tehsils of Jammu will take to streets against the lawmaker on Tuesday", Kumar added.
The BJP MLA did not respond to repeated phone calls from Greater Kashmir.
