Exactly 22 days after he was accused by his daughter of outraging her modesty, the body of the accused father was found hanging in a village of Kathua District of the Jammu Region, today.
The deceased (name withheld) a resident of Zahol Village, around 30 Kilometers from the District Kathua Headquarters was found hanging with a tree in the nearby forests of his village.
By profession a tractor driver, the deceased was booked on complaint in case FIR number 165/2016 under sections 376, 511 of Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) at Rajbagh Police Station on July 30 last and since then he was absconding.
Today, Zahol Villagers spotted his body hanging with a tree and informed police. Later, police took his body into possession and after performing legal formalities, handed it over to the family members for performing last rites.
"As it is subject of investigation, I will say-God knows better whether allegations of rape were true or not but during preliminary investigations, locals claimed that the person was not guilty", a police official posted at Rajbagh Police Station, told Greater Kashmir.
The police official said that inquest proceedings under CrPC 174 have been started to ascertain the circumstances under which the man took such an extreme step.
As per sources, following the recovery of the body, locals staged a demonstration in the village and held his daughter and mother responsible for the death of the person.
According to villagers, the deceased had strained relations with his wife and he would prefer staying away from home.
"The person was forced to take the extreme step", villagers claimed.
