With no respite in  traffic jams on highway,   hundreds of Jammu bound passengers vehicles   remained stuck at more than five hours on the Jammu Srinagar Highway between Sherbibi and Banihal on Monday morning.

Reports said that the highway was choked for hours as authorities violated own one-way schedule by allowing traffic from both sides. "Keeping in view narrowing of the road due to landslides and execution of work the authorities have decided to allow traffic from one way on alternate side, but on ground this practice is not being followed" said a driver.

The commuters especially the locals complained that travelling on highway has become a nuisance  and it has become impossible for them to reach to their  destinations in time.

"We have not witnessed such chaos and confusion on the Highway for a long time as it is today" they complained.

They also alleged that there was no traffic police cops on the road to regulate the traffic.

However, the traffic police authorities said that they were facing shortage of cops. "We are facing dearth of Nafri, our boys are overburdened, unplanned earth cutting and excavation by the sub-contractors at various places has shrunk the already narrow road which creating mess" said a senior officer whishing not to be named.
