In an emergency meeting, Jammu media persons today unanimously decided to boycott a faction of Panun Kashmir and Youth All India Kashmiri Samaj (YAIKS) after a group of activists led by Ashwani Chrungoo (Panun Kashmir Movement) and R K Bhat (Youth All India Kashmiri Samaj YAIKS), misbehaved and entered into heated arguments with journalists near Press Club this morning.

The KPs had assembled outside Press Club Jammu in commemoration of the Kashmiri Pandit Balidaan Divas. The KPs, however, tried to protest in the area which has been banned by the District Magistrate for such activities.

The matter started when said leaders along with the activists, forcibly entered into restricted parking area of Press Club and held a protest demonstration.

When, the Press Club's security guards asked them to vacate the place, as the area is being banned for protests, these leaders and their activists started abusing guards.

The media persons tried to intervene but the leaders abused them also and called scribes "terrorists".

Following the unfortunate episode, a meeting was held by the media persons at Press Club.

The media fraternity condemned the episode and it was unanimously decided that events and programmes of a faction of Panun Kashmir and YAIKS will not be covered by the Jammu media persons.

The entry of Ashwani Chrangoo and other leaders of Pannun Kashmir has also been banned in the Press Club till further orders by the Press Club management.

Media fraternity has also lodged a formal police complaint against the KP leaders and their activists.

National Conference (NC) Provincial President Devender Singh Rana expressed his solidarity with the media persons and condemned the unfortunate episode outside the Jammu Press Club.

He said the scenario is deplorable, especially as the media has been shouldering its responsibilities objectively in difficult situations. He cautioned against the attempts of muzzling freedom of press and said that the morning episode was not acceptable at all.
