An army soldier wounded in cross-LoC firing in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir died on Wednesday, taking the death toll to 13 in border skirmishes between the armies of India and Pakistan since Thursday.
Sources said the army man had suffered bullet injuries in Mendhar area of the district. "He was being treated at a hospital in Rajouri. However, he succumbed today," said the source.
"Pakistan had resorted to unprovoked firing on Indian Army posts in Krishna Ghati sector on 20 January. During the exchange of fire, Naik Jagadish sustained grievous splinter injuries. He was immediately evacuated and provided intensive medical care in Military Hospital," a defence spokesperson said.
Naik Jagadish (34), belonged to Village, Gandashu, District Chamoli and is survived by his wife Usha Devi and two young children.
