Police ‘work out’ theft case within an hour

A police officer said, "In the wee hours of Saturday, atabout 2 am, 38-year-old Mumtaz Ali, a employee of the sheep husbandrydepartment, broke open the safe of Ziarat Shareef Sain Elahi Baksh (RA) atBattalkote, Loran, and decamped with Rs 28,635."

A team, the officer said, was constituted to nab theaccused, who had fled from the spot and was en route Poonch.

"A team led by deputy superintendent of police,headquarters, Aijaz Bhat, swung into action. They laid a checkpoint in Mandiarea, but the accused broke the barricade and tried to flee. The alert copschased him down and upon his search, the stolen cash was recovered," theofficer said, adding that the man "confessed to his crime during questioning".

An FIR has been registered and police are investigating thecase further.
