NC OBC Cell seeks effective implementation of welfare schemes

National Conference OBC Cell on Sunday strongly pitched for special dispensation for the weaker sections of society in Jammu and Kashmir to ensure their upliftment and economic emancipation.

"The interests of the OBC communities received serious dentduring the BJP-PDP government, which ignored their legitimate aspirations andpending demands like increase in the reservation quota besides optimumfunctioning of the statutory body set up for their upliftment", co-chairpersonof the OBC Cell, Abdul Gani Teli said while addressing workers at Sanjay Nagarhere this afternoon.

Teli said that welfare of Other Backward Classes hasremained top on the agenda of National Conference, which is reflected in thefact that a Board was created with the post of Vice Chairman, having ministerialstatus, during the tenure of government headed by the NC. He also referred tothe landmark decision of the Omar Abdullah led government in allocating two percent reservation for these segments of society.

Teli said that raising of the reservation quota from two tofour per cent had also been approved by the NC Government but could not beimplemented due to change of the dispensation. He lamented that the BJP-PDPgovernment deliberately played with the sentiments of the OBCs and ignoredtheir legitimate demands.

"NC will always espouse the cause of weaker sections ofsociety", the co-chairman said while enumerating the measures taken for theirwelfare in the past.Besides Shahid Mohammed (Pinka), the meeting wasaddressed by Sunil Mehra, Bittu Mehra, Shashi Kumar Mehra, Rattan Lal, KiratSingh, Vinod Mehra, Nittu Mehra, Sai Dass and others.
