More than 40 hutments of nomad Gujjars were gutted in a massive blaze in RS Pura, Jammu, on Sunday.
Police said the fire broke out in Tibba area of Badyal Brahmana during wee hours today. He said five fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames. The cause of the fire is being ascertained.
Senior National Conference leader and member Legislative Assembly Kangan Mian Altaf Ahmed has expressed grief and sorrow over massive fire incident that happened in RS pura area of Jammu on late Saturday evening, resulting in massive damage and loss of property.
In a statement Mian Altaf expressed profound grief and sorrow over the devastating fire incident in a gujjar basti at Tibba area of Badyal Brahmana of RS pura in which more than 40 hutments were gutted. “Besides complete damage to the houses a large livestock has also died in the inferno” the statement said.
Altaf has asked the state government for immediate relief and rehabilitation of all affected people. “The state government should immediately compensate and rehabilitate the affected families” he added.
