Udhampur, Dec 9: Five members of a marriage party were killed and 24 others injured when a bus they were traveling in met skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge in Udhampur district during the wee hours on Thursday.
Police said that the ill fated bus (JK0148-1731) was on its way to Ramnagar from Jammu when it met with the mishap at Garnai Rehmbal. The bus fell into a deep gorge killing five passengers on the spot.
"As the mishap occurred during the night nobody noticed the bus skidding off the road. The locals rushed to the spot after hearing cries of the injured passengers. Later the locals informed the police and the injured were rushed to Udhampur hospital," a police officer said.
2 die, 10 injured in Valley
Meanwhile, two persons were killed and nine others injured in separate road accidents across the Valley on Thursday.
Police said a Tata Mobile (JK04P-2027) hit Muhammad Maqbool Wani of Nowhar Char-i-Sharief, resulting in his on the spot death. The body has been kept in mortuary room of SDH Char-e-Sharief for postmortem.
In another incident a load carrier (JK01N-2863) driven by Muhammad Ramzan of Wathlar Ganderbal turned turtle at Nilgard Sonamarg resulting in injuries to three persons identified as Nazir Ahmad Dar, Irfan Ahmad Bhat residents of Wathlar Ganderbal and Shahnaaz Ahmad Bhat of Chattabal Srinagar. All the injured were shifted to hospital where Shahnaaz succumbed to his injuries. Police has registered a case in this regard.
Meanwhile, police said four persons were injured when a Tata Sumo (JK01G-0989) driven by Showkat Ahmad Wani of Nesbal, Sumbal skidded of the road. Three persons were injured when an Alto Car (JK05B-7166) collided with a Tipper (JK01C-3667) at Babapora.
