After a lull of about one month, guns roared in Balakote area of Mendhar on Line of Control on Friday, with both Indian and Pakistani sides firing bullets and mortar shells.

After a lull of about one month, guns roared in Balakote area of Mendhar on Line of Control on Friday, with both Indian and Pakistani sides firing bullets and mortar shells.

According to reports, firing started in Balakote at around 9.30 am. "Initially only small arms' firing was reported from the area while both sides started firing mortar shells later," they said. Reports said there are no reports of any loss to lives on this side and shelling was mostly confined in Forward Areas of LOC.

Meanwhile, Jammu-based defence PRO said Pakistani Army "initiated indiscriminate firing of small arms, automatics and mortars at 09.15 am on Indian Army posts along the Line of Control (LoC)."

"The Indian Army posts retaliated strongly and effectively. The firing stopped at around 10.30 am. No firing is presently on," he said.
