Army Chief Bipin Rawat on Saturday visited the Northern Command headquarter in Udhampur to take stock of operational preparedness along the Line of Control and border in the wake of recent infiltrations, and security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Gen Rawat arrived this morning and chaired a high-level meeting to review the situation and operational preparedness in Jammu and Kashmir)," an army official told Greater Kashmir. 

The Army Chief was briefed by lieutenant general D Anbu, general officer commander-in-chief, Northern Command, on the overall security situation, particularly along the LoC.

The Army Chief interacted with the senior military commanders and took a firsthand assessment of the prevailing operational conditions and operational preparedness.

He appreciated the "high standards" of operational readiness in the difficult terrain and challenging operational environment.

The general also lauded the synergy and cooperation between the Northern Command, air force, central armed police forces, civil administration, and J&K police operating in the region.

Earlier on Friday, the director general border security force (BSF) K K Sharma visited Jammu frontiers and forward areas and took stock of preparedness of troops deployed on international border.
