Army commander chairs annual road conference

To speed-up the ongoing connectivity projects in state and identifying bottlenecks to provide better road infrastructure in bordering region, Lieutenant General Ranbir Singh, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command chaired two day annual road conference at Northern Command Headquarters, Udhampur on Friday.

“The conference was aimed at taking stock of ongoing road connectivity projects in J&K and identifying bottlenecks so as to arrive at way forward to provide better road infrastructure to Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions,” Colonel Rajesh Kalia officiating defence spokesperson of Northern Command said.

   

He said that focus of the road infrastructure development in Northern Command by Army and Border Roads Organization (BRO) is to improve all weather connectivity to cut off, far flung and remote areas in Jammu and Kashmir. Development of connectivity infrastructure by Army authorities not only meets operational requirements but also local aspirations, thereby contributing to socio economic development of the local populace,” he said. He added that improved roads directly contribute towards employment generation, marketing of produce and tourism.

On the first day event was attended by senior military officers of the Northern Command and Chief Engineers of BRO projects.
