BJP’s jingoism has left border dwellers in distress: Rana

Attributing prevailing distress on the borders to lack of policy of the BJP led government at the Centre, National Conference Provincial President Devender Singh Rana on Monday said jingoism won’t insulate people from shelling and firing from across the border.

“There is a continued blood trail from Poonch to Kathua on Line of Control and International Border with residents of the forward areas and soldiers falling like mute ducks,”  Rana said while interacting the shelling hit people at Pargwal in the Akhnoor Sector this afternoon.

Surjeet Singh Slathia also extended his solidarity with the affected people and said the government cannot stand as a fence watcher to their miseries. He said the insensitivity and callousness being demonstrated by the coalition government has assumed alarming proportions with nobody showing any sense of accountability.

Rana expressed concern over spurt in shelling and said the entire border population has been left vulnerable to heavy mortar shells. An unprecedented sense of insecurity is prevalent in the forward villages, with people running helter-skelter for their lives, he said adding that all activities have come to standstill. He said the shelling has exposed security preparedness to meet the challenge due to lack of political will. The political dispensation, both at the Centre and in the State, is indulging in rhetoric as no effort has been made to douse the flames, he added.
