District Development Commissioner, Reasi, Indu Kanwal Chib, Sunday inaugurated annual 3-day Aghar Jitto Mela, which began with great religious fervour and gaiety at Aghar Jitto near Katra.
Thefair is being organised every year in the memory of Bawa Jitto, an honestfarmer, who stood up against unjust Jagirdari system.
SDMKatra, Ashok Kumar, Tehsildar Katra, Sunil Sharma, Assistant Director Tourism,Umesh Shan, BDO Katra, Saba Noor, besides other officers and officials werepresent on the occasion.
Onthe occasion, the school students presented cultural programme to mark theinaugural ceremony of the religious event.
Thedepartments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Handloom, Sericulture, Industries,Floriculture, Tourism, Employment, Rural Development and allied departmentsestablished their stalls to spread awareness about government schemes andinitiatives among the people.
Besides,a number of fun activities and fun rides have also been set up for kids at thevenue.
The3-day event will also witness staging of Dogri play ‘Bawa Jitto’ by NatrangTheatre group on June 17 and June 18, besides traditional Dangal wrestling onthe last day.
