Retreating demand to declare birth anniversary of Late Maharaja Hari Singh(September 23) as state holiday, the Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) president G S Charak here on Thursday appealed Governor Satya Pal Malik to consider this long pending demand which involves the sentiments of the whole Dogra race.
As per press statement , The DSS president, G S Charak in a press conference here at Dogra Hall said the issue of observing holiday on September23 to celebrate the birth anniversary of Late Maharaja Hari Singh is still hanging in fire even after the resolution was passed by the state legislative council.
Charak informed that the Sabha has been constantly taking up this issue of declaring Sept 23 as a holiday and in this regard last year's appeal had invoked tremendous response from the civil society, private schools, traders and business organizations whereby they celebrated the birth anniversary of Late Maharaja Hari Singh .
"Even Jammu Bar Association also suspended their work on this day last year," added Charak.
He appealed civil society and business organizations to be a part of this year's celebrations as well and added, "This may help the government to understand the mood and voice of the people in support of declaring Sept 23 as holiday."
Expressing dismay over the attitude of state government, the Sabha members appealed the Governor Satya Pal Malik to consider this long pending demand which involves the sentiments of the whole Dogra race that comprising people from all religious sections.
Charak also informed that DSS shall celebrate this year's day at the Sabha Bhawan from 9 am onwards .He said besides solemnizing 'Havan', the speakers will throw light on the life of Late Maharaj Hari Singh.
Prof N K Dogra, Col Karan Singh Jamwal, Prem Sagar Gupta, Maj Gen Sunita Kapoor , Brig M S Jamwal, Col Dr Virender Kumar Sahi, Janak Khajuria, Amanat Ali Shah, G A Khawaja, Gambhir Dev Singh Charak, Prof Anita Billawaria and Tarun Uppal were also present in the press conference.
