DODA SCHOOL BLAST: Accused flees from police custody

An accused in the blast case in a school at Doda, a class IV employee, onWednesday escaped from police custody in the wee hours, a senior police officer said.

The accused was detained by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).

According to reports, after questioning more than 3 dozen villagers of Shiva village in the blast case, SIT detained 2 persons, a class IV employee of the school and a villager, for questioning.

They have been identified as Tanveer Ahmed, son of Khair Din, and Mir Din, son of Karam Din, both residents of village Shiva. They were lodged at Police Post (PP) Bhalla on Tuesday evening.

“Two villagers were detained for questioning and were taken to Police Post Bhalla in the wee hours. One of the accused, on the pretext of going to urinal came out of the lock-up and taking advantage of the darkness, fled,” the police officer said.

The washroom is outside the lock-up, he said.

“We have launched a manhunt to nab the absconder Tanveer Ahmed, who gave a slip to the police,” the officer said.

Meanwhile, taking serious note of the incident, an inquiry has been initiated against 3 police officials of Bhalla Police Post for dereliction of duties, the senior police officer said.

It is notable to mention here that in a low intensity explosion in a school in Shiva village on Monday morning, principal of the school Hoshyar Singh and a female staff member were injured.

Earlier, it was assumed to be an inverter battery blast, but later the FSL team, after its preliminary investigation, said that it was a Crude Explosive Device (CED) which was possibly aimed at killing the principal.
