Education officers asked to relieve teaching staff in a week

Amid the complaints against teachers enjoying extended stint in offices of chief education officers (CEOs) and zonal educational officers (ZEOs), the directorate of school education Kashmir (DSEK) on Monday ordered for shifting of all teaching staff from these offices.

The circular in this regard has been issued by director school education Kashmir GN Itoo.

“The teaching staff working in your offices in any capacity shall be relieved forthwith and shall peform their duties in schools against their postings,” the circular reads and warns of “stern action” against the violators.

“All CEOs and ZEOs shall submit their action taken report to the directorate within one week,” it reads. A number of teachers have secured postings at ZEO and CEO offices in violation of government norms at a time when many schools face a shortage of teachers.

Besides ZEO and CEO offices, the department has also accommodated dozens of general line teachers and ReTs in District Institution of Education and Training and State Institute of Education, where they are assigned “unnecessary tasks to justify their deputation for non-teaching assignments”. Also, scores of the teachers have been accommodated in various sections of the directorate for years together, in violation of norms set by the department.

“All teachers deployed in any office for more than two years will be relieved and posted in their respective schools. We will ensure that adequate staff is placed in schools before the end of winter vacations,” he said.
