Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today asked state BJP workers to engage mainstream political parties in the Valley to fight separatism.
Jaitley had arrived in winter capital to inaugurate the newly constructed high-tech BJP office "Shyamaprasad Mookherjee Bhawan" at Trikuta Nagar here.
Addressing the party workers after the inauguration, Jaitley said that BJP is ideologically opposed to separatism and hence the party cannot compromise on it.
"As we have our own ideology, we cannot compromise on any kind of separatism. So we have to oppose this ideology (separatism) tooth and nail. And for this to happen, we have to involve the mainstream political parties of Kashmir", he said.
Referring to the 'landslide' victory of BJP in Jammu in LA polls, Jaitley said that people of Jammu gave their decisive mandate to BJP and PDP emerged as single largest party in Kashmir. "Even arithmetic, during the polls, was in favour of BJP. So, I would like to say that the state leadership should have to pay back to public through public works", he added.
On forming coalition in J&K with a party (PDP) of different ideology, he said, "Both PDP and BJP are different ideologically, but to ensure mainstream political parties and people of Kashmir joining BJP in its fight against separatism, the PDP-BJP coalition experiment was imperative".
Referring to the PM's package, Jaitley said that mere mentioning of the central package is not enough for the state government, as both centre and state have their own resources and they should be used for the benefit of the general public.
He added that the Road Transport and Highways Department, Railways Department and Health Department have announced a number of projects for the state. "In the remaining period of coalition, the state government should start work on the already sanctioned projects and complete these on time to win confidence of people", he further said.
"Institutions like IIMs, IITs and AIIMs will be living monuments in the days to come and we have the financial authority to build and improve the infrastructure of these institutions", Jaitley said, adding, "Now focus should be on using all the resources for the development of these institutes and involving mainstream political parties and Kashmiris to fight separatism".
