Expert committee rejects glucose purchased by JKMSCL

In an embarrassment to Jammu Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation Limited (JKMSCL), the Verification Committee constituted by the department, has rejected the glucose purchased by the corporation for hospitals on the ground that “certain necessary tests of the product have not been conducted.”

Sources in the health department said, “As a result of rejection, the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H), Jammu and its associated hospitals, are facing acute shortage of glucose, especially the normal saline.”

They said that the committee has barred the corporation from supplying glucose to the GMC until the required tests are conducted.

Some other concerns have also been expressed by the Verification Committee regarding the glucose purchased by the corporation, they added.

The officials admitted that some batches of glucose have not been cleared by the committee and therefore, it cannot be supplied to the hospitals until the tests as told by the committee are done.

They however, maintained that glucose of other batches is being supplied to the hospitals.

It may be mentioned here that samples of all the medicines, drugs, glucose, etc., purchased by the corporation are tested in the specified laboratories.

Once the required tests are done, the medicines, drugs, glucose, etc., are to be cleared by the Verification Committee constituted by the department before their supply to the hospitals.

If the committee has some concerns regarding medicines, drugs etc, they cannot be supplied until the concerns are addressed.

“Yes, the committee has said that colestibility and some other tests have not been conducted and therefore, we cannot supply glucose to the hospitals,” managing director, JKMSCL, Dr Inderjeet said.

He said that some other queries have also been raised by the committee, which also need to be addressed.

Inderjeet said that as per requirements of Indian pharmacology, all routine tests have been got conducted and their reports are also Ok.

The Verification Committee has expressed concerns about five (5) batches of glucose being purchased by the corporation and has asked to get some tests done, he said.
