Former ministers, legislators others call on LG

Former Ministers, former Legislators and scores of public delegations on Thursday called on the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha here at the Raj Bhavan and projected their concerning issues.

A delegation led by Former Minister, Abdul Ghani Kohli submitted a memorandum of demands pertaining to welfare of Gujjar and Bakerwal communities including rehabilitation of ST Communities and Gujjar Tribals; inclusion of ST member in J&K Socially and Educationally Backward Class Commission; recognition of Forest Act; upliftment and holistic development of nomadic community of J&K etc. Former Minister & Convenor, BBBP, Priya Sethi led a delegation of women political & social activists comprising of- Radha Singh Charak, Anju Dogra, Rekha Manhas and Rekha Mahajan.

They raised the issue that after the Jammu and Kashmir State Commission was denotified, the fate of hundreds of women and children is in lurch as they have no idea whom and where to approach at the time of distress and demanded for notifying the Act for the welfare of women and children. They also projected the demand for judicial use of Nirbhaya Fund in J&K UT. The members of the delegation also flagged the issue of media reports on the UT Domicile rules not accommodating non-Permanent Resident spouse of a PRC holder daughter and sought Lt Governor's intervention in redressing the same.

Former MLC and leader of JKAP, Vijay Bakaya also projected various issues of public importance.

Justice (Retd.) Permod Kohli, Member, Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board briefed the Lt Governor about several matters relating to the safe and smooth conduct of the Yatra, besides post unlock-down measures taken by the Board. Social Activist, Ruchi Chauhan met the Lt Governor and briefed him about the initiatives taken by her organization for the welfare of people.

A delegation of Pahari Cultural and Welfare Forum comprising of former Legislators- Murtaza Khan, MR Qureshi, Ashok Sharma and Pardeep Sharma projected issues pertaining to the welfare of Pahari population including ST status for Pahari people.
