Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday directed the district magistrates to furnish the details about the issuance of individual armed licenses by their offices for the period 2012 upto July 12, 2018 to the respective SSP/SP by or before March 9, 2019.
The move came after theElection Commission of India (ECI) team, during its visit to the State,discussed the issuance of indiscriminate armed licenses, with the Stategovernment.
“The home department has,accordingly, reviewed the matter in light of the discussions held in themeeting with ECl. Now, therefore, with the view to ensure law and order relatedsituation in the State particularly during the ensuing general elections-2019,certain directions have been issued to be complied with by the districtmagistrates, SSsP and SsP,” an order said.
Asper the fresh directives, the district magistrates shall furnish the detailsabout the issuance of individual armed licenses by their offices for the period2012 upto July 12, 2018 to the respective SSP/SP by or before March 9, 2019;the concerned SSP/SP shall, on receipt of such details, conduct an intensiveverification of those licenses which have been issued to persons within his/herjurisdiction within a period if seven days and ensure adherence to ECIinstructions regarding deposition of the licensed weapons.
