Govt to construct 14,000 bunkers for people along LoC, IB: Jugal

The government of India has sanctioned Rs 415 crore for the construction of 14,460 bunkers on the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control in Jammu division.

“The government will construct 14,460 bunkers in Kathua, Samba, Jammu, Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu province for the people who bravely face firing across the border,” said Lok Sabha MP Jugal Kishore Sharma while addressing media persons at BJP headquarter.

   

“An amount of Rs 415.73 crore was sanctioned for construction,” he added.

He said that 13,029 individual bunkers and 1431 community bunkers would be constructed. “The capacity of the 160 square feet individual bunker will be eight people, and that of the 800 square feet community bunker 40 people,” he said.

Giving break-up, the officials here said, 7298 bunkers would be constructed along the LoC in the twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri, while 7162 underground bunkers would be constructed along the IB in Jammu, Kathua and Samba districts.

“4918 individual and 372 community bunkers would be constructed in Rajouri, and 3076 individual and 243 community bunkers would come up in Kathua district. 688 community and 1320 individual bunkers would be constructed in Poonch, Jammu would get 1200 individual and 120 community bunkers, and 2515 individual and eight community bunkers would be constructed in Samba district,” he said.

“These bunkers would serve as life saver in case of emergency”, he claimed.

The MP expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh for acceding to the demand of the people living in border villages.
